Hello and welcome to WonderBubbleLab!

My name is Kimblee, and I am a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) in Canada with over 20 years of experience working with children and families.

Throughout my journey in early childhood education, I have learned that childhood is filled with small but meaningful wonders. To me, education is never simply about teaching facts or managing behaviour. It is about discovering the world together through a child’s eyes—with curiosity, warmth, patience, and joy.

One of my favourite moments each day at our centre happens after circle time, when we bring out the bubbles. The children laugh, jump, chase, and reach toward the floating bubbles with pure excitement. Because our centre has welcomed so many children over the years, I sometimes imagine those tiny bubbles carrying thousands of children’s dreams into the sky. As time passes, I quietly wonder what beautiful paths those dreams will someday become.

That image became one of the inspirations behind the name WonderBubbleLab—a place where curiosity, imagination, learning, and childhood wonder can gently grow together.

As an immigrant parent who built a life and raised a child in Canada, I also understand many of the joys, uncertainties, and emotional challenges that families experience while navigating parenting in a new country. This personal experience has given me deep empathy for diverse families and communities.

Through this blog, I hope to share practical, research-informed, and experience-based insights about child development, emotional regulation, play, learning, behaviour, and everyday parenting challenges. My goal is to create a space that feels both professional and comforting—where families can find trustworthy information while feeling understood and supported.

Straws and Connectors: Building Creativity, Cooperation, Fine Motor Skills, and Early STEM Through Play

  One of the materials I almost always bring out during our preschool drop-in program is a simple basket of straws and connectors. Unlike toys with flashing lights, batteries, or predetermined outcomes, these colourful building pieces seem surprisingly ordinary at first glance. Yet after many years of working in family-centred early learning programs, I have noticed that they consistently attract children, parents, and sometimes even grandparents into long periods of meaningful play. Recently, I placed a large basket of straws and connectors in the middle of our preschool room. A few children began connecting pieces together, experimenting with shapes and long colourful lines. Soon, their parents joined in. Before long, other families became curious and moved closer. 3–6 Month Old Milestones: Reaching, Exploring, Communicating, and Learning Through Play

One of my favourite things about working in infant programs is seeing how quickly babies change between three and six months. Sometimes a family will return after only a few weeks, and I can hardly believe it is the same baby. During their first visit, they may have spent most of the morning sleeping in a carrier or quietly observing the room from their parent's arms. A few weeks later, they are watching everything, reaching toward toys, smiling when someone talks to them, and letting everyone know when they are happy, excited, tired, or frustrated. At this stage, babies begin showing more of their personalities. They smile intentionally, laugh, vocalize, and communicate through facial expressions, body movements, and different cries. While they are not yet using words, they are already becoming active participants in social interactions.
